I think things have changed at Facepunch dramatically since their 2019 dropping of support for Linux. He said " linux sux #ad" in 2019, but when prompted about Linux and Rust later down the road in 2021 in response to Tim Sweeney's EAC announcement he said " There's a lot of back end stuff we need to work through iirc" says " does" run well on Steam Deck and in response to someone else about enabling EAC for all of Linux he said " EAC are working on it, we're working with them to make it happen." Concluding. I'll go in chronological order for accuracy's sake because I think his views may have genuinely changed. Garry has made a couple of comments on it. He also kept it short in another comment, again repeating that there are technical issues with EAC workinig in Linux systems, but not expanding on what he meant by that. Getting EAC fully compatible with different systems is technical and I just don't have the knowhow in that area to say what needs to happen for it to work but I can assure you that any progress made in that area will be posted about and you will hear about it.Ĭompatibility is something we've been exploring but no ETA or anything The steamdeck should work on unsecured servers currently but these aren't displayed in the server browser and it will be hard to find them. One user who asked 'Do you know when EAC will be supported for steam deck' in March 2022 got the below response from Facepunch. They have however made a couple of comments in the official Rust Discord server to users who ask. If we look to official statements Facepunch has made, they haven't made any big comments since 2019.

I've had stable gameplay in the open world, but I don't know if that's a red herring. I have actually been able to get in game and play, but the game crashes when teleporting into an area with a LOT of objects, like a town. The game loads through the welcome screen, can select character, but when loading into the world it crashes. Steam Launch Options: bash -c 'exec - %command%

Software: Pop!_OS 22.04 (nvidia), nvidia driver 510.68.02 from pop shop, Steam (flatpak) from PopShop, Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime installed, Proton Experimental compatibility, Shader Precaching enabled. I am trying to play New World on Steam, I am a new Linux adopter and won't be going back, but I really want to play this game! I got the launch options from ProtonDB, where it seems people are getting it to run pretty easily after EAC got updated.
